There are spots across the world called, or referred to as, Land’s End… lonely outcroppings and spindly peninsulas which are all but surrounded by sea. Cabo San Lucas’ Land’s End, however, is a double threat as it is home to the El Arco rock formation which adorns so many postcards and tourism advertisements for Los Cabos.

This geographical wonder is beloved by many locals and international travellers alike.

What’s in a name?

Land’s End is the anglicized name for the south-westerly point of Baja California, Mexico, which overlooks El Arco (Spanish for “The Arch”). Presumably it was called such because when you look out to the ocean from this point you can see no more land! Locals say that when sailors visited during the Age of Discovery and the Golden Age of Pirates they dubbed it such because they believed that it was the last piece of land before Antarctica (Thank God we have better maps, now!)

El Arco itself bursts from the ocean waves and reaches to the sky; its silhouette is well known across the world. In fact, El Arco marks the point at which the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez (and the Gulf of California).

Things to do at Land’s End

At Land’s End you will find two stunning beaches; Lover’s Beach and Divorce Beach. Lover’s beach is perfect for those who want to swim, sunbathe, or surf, but you should not swim at Divorce beach as the currents here are very, very strong. You can also enjoy watching pelicans, sea lions and other creatures or enjoy snorkeling and diving tours.

How to get there

There are many different ways to get to and from Land’s End. You could hire a water taxi from the Marina if you wanted to (some have glass bottoms), or you could partake in one of the many tours that can be found around Los Cabos. Some of these may include other stops, too!
