Puerto Vallarta’s Los Muertos Pier
If you and your family have been vacationing in Puerto Vallarta over the past few years, then you might have noticed the amazing changes and improvements to the Los Muertos Pier, which was finally completed in 2013. Maybe, you are new to vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, in which case you won’t know that the original pier was in terrible shape. Today, Puerto Vallarta’s Los Muertos Pier is now one of the main attractions and a feature that the city can be proud of.
Architect Jose de Jesus Torres Vega
Architect, Jose de Jesus Torres Vega, the proud winner of the Biennial Architecture Prize, designed Puerto Vallarta’s new Los Muertos Pier with the design and construction completed in 2013. The purpose of the new design and construction was to bring life to downtown Puerto Vallarta in line with the renovations to Puerto Vallarta’s malecon (boardwalk) that was completed in 2011.
Sail boat design
Jose de Jesus Torres Vegas designed the new pier to resemble a sail boat making the end of the pier have angles that twist around like sails. Sail lights were also added to the pier, so that the pier could be seen from miles away. Puerto Vallarta’s pier is an excellent place to walk to of an evening, because it is all lit up and very romantic. Couples can walk along the beach and see the lit up pier of many colors, which makes for the perfect backdrop to any evening stroll. If you would like to rest, then you can do so on the pier, because there are benches that have been built into the construction. The benches allow vacationers to relax while waiting for a boat to take them to one of the beaches that can only be reached by boat in Puerto Vallarta.
A working pier
The pier is not just decorative, it is also the place where passengers wait for a water taxi or a chartered tour to take them to Las Marietas Islands, Yelapa and Las Animas, amongst other destinations. There are several chartered adventure tours that pick up passengers on this pier.
The new and modernized pier has quickly become an iconic symbol of Puerto Vallarta. You will see the pier featured on artwork, paintings and postcards. The new Los Muertos Pier and the Malecon has really helped Puerto Vallarta become modernized, which has increased the number of vacationers visiting the city too.
