There is so much more to be discovered than beaches and more beaches throughout Banderas Bay. Beyond Mismaloya and Boca de Tomatlan is a whole world of mountain life nestling peacefully in the Sierra Madre Mountains only 45 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta. The quaint typical town of El Tuito is the ideal place for a cultural day trip from Puerto Vallarta.

Authentic Mexican Town

The Mexican Federal Government compiled a list of authentic Mexican towns known as Pueblos Magicos. It’s no surprise that El Tuito belongs to this list. The town’s Aztecan language name of “Nahua” literally means “Divine Place”. Going there for a cultural day will let you discover the reason why it is called as such. The town is the home of only 3,600 people in the past 500 years since it was founded. Most residents are farmers and small business owners. Soon, the town will have its first town. Although included in the prestigious list of cultural towns, El Tuito shows signs of technology and health service advances.

Beautiful Zocalo

The town’s recreational center is a charming zocalo (main square). Commonly used as a meet-up point, other beautiful sceneries can be found here. Mostly used in arrangements such as, “See you on the plaza at two o’clock”, the town’s main plaza is also a hub where many people pass as they head west to the beautiful coast of Cabo Corrientes. The Tuiteños, as the townsfolk are called, take great pride for their pueblito (town) and their plaza. A beautiful tree which people labeled as “Maria” stands on the plaza providing comfortable shade for people staying in front of the library and the municipal plaza.

Flora

Plenty of Oak trees and eternal spring gardens stay hidden behind the walls of most homes covered with roof tiles in town. Various beautiful blossoms abound in this Mexican region.

Town Business

A small number of foreign investors chose El Tuito’s peaceful town as their place of business. Away from the bustle of Puerto Vallarta, you can find small stores or bakeries selling the local panela cheese and the local Raicilla (Mexican Moonshine).
